State highway system under the Mississippi Transportation Commission / Mississippi Department of Transportation. Miss. Code § 65-1-2(4) transferred the State Highway Department’s construction-and-maintenance powers over the state highway system to MDOT. § 65-1-59: the Commission continues to have MDOT maintain all state highways now under maintenance or hereafter taken over; a highway removed by legislative act or by relocation/reconstruction returns to the county board of supervisors or the municipality. § 65-1-59 points to a mileage cap of 8,600 miles in § 65-3-3. County roads and municipal streets are not that system. This is Mississippi MDOT (mdot.ms.gov), not Michigan MDOT, not Montana MDT, not Missouri MoDOT.
